ZWOLLE (DE KRANENBURG) GENERAL CEMETERY Netherlands

Zwolle, a city on the Zwarte Water and the main road to the provinces of Friesland and Groningen, is the capital of the province of Overijssel and has the largest railway junction in Holland. It was formerly a Hanseatic City", i.e. a member of the powerful Hanseatic League which existed from 1241 until the middle of the 17th century for the purpose of mutual protection in international commerce, and there was a branch of this league in London for hundreds of years.

The ZWOLLE (DE KRANENBURG) GENERAL CEMETERY is about 3 kilometres north-east of Zwolle, on the northern side of the road to Meppel. It is approached through imposing gates and up a long drive. In the north-eastern part are the graves of 1 soldier and 4 airmen from the United Kingdom, 3 airmen from Canada, and 1 from Australia.
