Location:

Sains-les-Marquion is a village about 12 kilometres north-west of Cambrai and 2 kilometres south of the D939, Arras to Cambrai road. SAINS-LES-MARQUION BRITISH CEMETERY lies at the junction of the D15 and D16 roads, about 1.5 kilometres from the centre of the village.

  • Cap Badge– Cap Badge 92nd Bn (48th Highlanders of Canada).  Lieutenant Proudfoot was originally a member of the 92nd Bn before he was transferred to the 26th Bn as a reinforcement.   • War Memorial– "The Canal du Nord memorial, erected by the 15th Battalion Memorial Project and the town of Marquion, was unveiled and dedicated on 24 September 2012. The memorial commemorates the actions of the 15th Battalion CEF, during the Canadian assault on the Canal du Nord on 27 September 1918 and the memory of those members of the Battalion who fell during the engagement. The memorial sits alongside the existing Canal du Nord, inside the town of Marquion, which the Battalion captured during the battle."

  • Group Photo– Officers 15th Bn (48th Highlanders of Canada) taken at Noeux-les-Mines in August 1917 prior to the Battle of Hill 70.  Lt Proudfoot who was killed a year later at the Canal du Nord is last on right in 2nd row. Submitted by the 15th Bn Memorial  Project Team.  DILEAS GU BRATH
  • Cap Badge– Cap Badge 26th Bn (New Brunswick).  Lt Proudfoot enlisted in the 92nd Bn as a Private soldier.  He was then sent to the 26th New Brunswick Bn as a reinforcement.  With this unit he served as a sniper and was promoted Sgt.  He was then commissioned a Lt in the 15th Bn (48th Highlanders of Canada).  Submitted by the 15th Bn Memorial Project. DILEAS GU BRATH
