Son of Lt. Col. James W. and Ida E. Edwards Woods, of Ottawa, Ontario.

As a former member of The Royal Ottawa Golf Club, Aylmer, Quebec; Lieutenant Sladen is commemorated on a plaque in the entrance to the club.

Location:

Meaulte is a village a little south of Albert. GROVE TOWN CEMETERY is about 2 kilometres south-east of the village and a little west of the road to the neighbouring village of Bray-sur-Somme.

  • Honour roll– In memory of the Ashbury College alumni and staff who gave their lives in Word War I, World War II and the Korean War. Plaque erected in the Ashbury College Chapel, 362 Mariposa Avenue, Ottawa
  • Memorial– Capt John Russel Woods, of the Coldstream Guards, died of wounds Sept 16, 1916 from the Battle of the Somme during the Great War. His memorial window and plaque are at the All Saints Event Space in Ottawa. His death was mentioned in the Ottawa Citizen and in Canada Golf 1917. 

He was a graduate of Ashbury College. His father LCol J.W. Woods commanded the Governor General Foot Guards.
