Son of Jules Desormiers and Mélina Desormiers (deceased in 1913), of Joliette, Québec. Husband of Amanda Bélanger, of Montréal, Québec. His record indicate that he enrolled on 27 April 1915, but enrollment was official only when it was signed by Justice, in that case, on 6 May 1915.

Jules sailed overseas with the 22nd Battalion, but he did not go to the front. He was hospitalized on 25 August 1915 and diagnosed with tuberculosis. He was repatriated and admitted to the Sanatorium Laurentien in Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, Québec. His condition did not improve, and was released from service on 29 February 1916; still being cared for in the sanatorium. He died there more than one year later and his death was attributable to his military service.
