Baptized Louis-Édouard Guertin. Son of Louis-Victor Guertin and Gertrude Blanchard. He stated being born on 20 October 1897 when he enlisted.
He arrived in France on 28 September 1916, and he joined the 22nd Battalion at the front on 16 October. Ten days later, he was killed in action by a large shell while being in a communication trench at « Lawson Crater », near Angres.
