Son of Lt. Col. G. W. V. Cotton (75th Regt.) and Sarah Cotton, of Hove, Brighton, England. Second Lieutenant Cotton was discharged from the Canadian Expeditionary Force to accept a commission and join the Royal Flying Corps on 3 May 1916.
