Cst. Maurice was born in Hull, Quebec. He was an avid hockey and tennis player in school. He enrolled in the three-year Law Enforcement course at the CEGEP de L'Outaouais. Cst. Maurice was determined to learn English. At his detachment he was known as "Gus". He was married to a woman named Kathy and they had a daughter named Emilie. At the time of Cst. Maurice's death, Kathy was expecting their second child, Noah. Cst. Maurice served at the Evansburg, Cardston and Sherwood Park detachments in Alberta. He enjoyed playing golf and hockey, hiking, weight-lifting and cross-country and downhill skiing. Cst. Maurice served in Haiti for six months.
