Cst. Shaw was a decorated veteran of the British Expeditionary Force and had been a pilot with the Royal Flying Corps in the First World War. He was killed near Benito, Manitoba, while transferring three robber suspects to Pelly, Saskatchewan.

He was separated from his wife and had two daughters. Cst. Shaw is buried in Swan River, Manitoba. There is a street at Depot named in Cst. Shaw’s honour.

Commemorated on Page 56 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Honour Roll Book.
