After the First World War, Lanark village dedicated the gates and ticket booth (ticket booth building is dated 1950) at Clyde Park to the Veterans of both World Wars. Plaques with names of Veterans from both wars were placed on the gates and the park was renamed Clyde Memorial Park. Remembrance Day Services took place at the gates of the park for many years.
Prior to 1985, the Legion decided to tear down the ticket booth at the gates of Clyde Memorial Park to erect a cenotaph. Some members objected because both the gates and the ticket booth were part of the original dedication. The Lanark Village Council was approached for a new location and provided land for a cenotaph which was built in front of the town hall.
