Colin Rogers was only carving for a little over a year when he was approached by the Elmsdale Legion in July 2021 to fix the Corporal Kevin Megeney Statue. Rogers felt the statue only had a couple of years left and didn’t want to touch the 2007 carving. So he offered to donate a new carving to commemorate his grandfather John Edward Rogers, while also keeping Corporal Kevin Megeney’s memory alive.

It took Rogers approximately 80-90 hours to carve the soldier. He began the work in September and completed it in October. The final design wasn’t the first design he produced and he avoided looking at the previous carved soldier except for a minute as he didn’t want to be influenced by it.

Rogers’ grandfather, John Edward Rogers, was a Chief Petty Officer 1st class, a submariner by trade. He lived in Stewiacke upon his retirement. Before that he had moved between Nova Scotia, Ontario, and England for his services. The new soldier statue was officially re-dedicated on October 29, 2021.
