44 Field Engineer Squadron of Trail, BC constructed a bridge over Cottonwood Creek at Nelson, BC and named it for Major Angus-Ward Davis. Maj Davis was the first Commanding Officer of Number 3 Tunnelling Company Canadian of the Expeditionary Force during the First World War. A noted mining engineer in civilian life, Major Davis joined the Canadian Engineers as a sapper in August 1914 and proceeded to France where he was later commissioned a Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers. In 1915 he returned to the Canadian Engineers to command Number 3 Tunnelling Company. Receiving a Distinguished Service Order and several Mentions in Despatches for his work during the war, Major Davis went on to be chief engineer at several mines in British Columbia after the war. The 90 foot Bailey Bridge is associated with the Trans Canada Trail and was officially opened and dedicated to Major Davis in September 2001 by his son and two daughters.

This memorial is dedicated to those who fought in the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War.

Constructed in 1924 in memory of those killed in action 1914-1918 and 1939-1945 from Greenwood and district. As Phoenix is over 4,000' in elevation and, for many years, not accessible on November 11th, a bronze plaque bearing the same names as the Phoenix Cenotaph (Memorial #59033-025) was mounted on the Cenotaph at Kettle Valley. Phoenix is a mining ghost town and only a Cenotaph and graveyard remain.

Mr. Paul Lautard from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 155, built an indoor cenotaph of plywood which has all the names as on the Kettle Valley Cenotaph and is in the same shape. It has an 18 foot flag pole and flag. He takes it to the Legion Hall in Greenwood each November 11. It is appreciated by the aging veterans that cannot tolerate the cold and wind at Kettle Valley Cenotaph.

In 1921 a Cenotaph was built of granite from Ymir, a memorial to those who gave their lives in the Great War. The site for the Cenotaph was the intersection of Broadway Street and Slocan Avenue (now renamed 4th Avenue). It was dedicated in 1922 by Rev. F. Ramsey of St. Mark’s Church, attended by President W. Waterfield of G.W.V.A. In 1963, the Cenotaph was moved to an area overlooking the beautiful Arrow Lakes, where it was fenced and a lawn planted. It is a great asset to the community.

Now located in the Nakusp Recreation Park, at the corner of Broadway and 8th. Memorial also includes dates for World War II and names of the dead.
