Descend into history with a visit to the Diefenbunker: Canada's Cold War Museum. On Saturday, November 9, and Sunday, November 10, the museum will offer free general admission for veterans and active military personnel, and for their accompanying family members. The museum will be closed on Monday, November 11.
This one-of-a-kind museum and national historic site is a window into the past and a powerful reminder of our world on the edge of nuclear war — it is an impressive four-storey underground facility that operated as the country's central communications headquarters during the Cold War, ready at any moment in case of a nuclear attack. While it fortunately never had to be used for its intended purpose, the Diefenbunker now tells the story of Canada's extraordinary efforts to safeguard our society in the face of potential catastrophe, and provides a reminder for present and future generations to strive to build a more peaceful future.
The museum honours those who served at the Diefenbunker, formerly Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Carp, and those who continue to serve across Canada and around the world.
