Lancaster III LM 479 of 101 (RAF) Sqn took off 21:30 from their base Ludford Magna on an bombing raid to Stettin, Germany. There were 8 crew members on board: 4 RCAF and 4 RAF, and two of them were Air Bombers. On the return flight LM479 was attacked by a German night fighter and crashed at Dejbjerg. Apparently it exploded in the air and crashed in the fields belonging to Kjærgaard farm at 03:58 hours.
A search for the crew remains was first conducted by the Wehrmacht and then a search was organized under the command of Captain Kisbye of C.B.U. in Herning and the remains collected were placed in four coffins and taken to the Dejbjerg cemetery where members of the resistance movement had dug a grave.

On 14/9 1944 at 19:30 a ceremony was held by Vicar Hans Pedersen and the crew were laid to rest.
