Patrick was then commissioned to the RAF on Oct. 1, 1939 and posted to Squadron 263 RAF Filton near Bristol. Patrick was killed in active service in a mid air collision 12 minutes after taking off from Bristol England on March 29, 1940. He is buried at the Canford Cemetery in Bristol England.
