Baptized Émile-Benjamin Dubois. Son of François-Xavier Dubois (deceased in 1899) and Émilie Lavoie, of Montréal (Ste-Cunégonde), Québec; she was widowed a second time and never remarried. Benjamin stated being born on the 13 June when he enlisted.

Wancourt is a village about 8 kilometres south-east of Arras. It is 2 kilometres south of the main road from Arras to Cambrai. The WANCOURT BRITISH CEMETERY is a short distance south-east of the village just off the D 35 road.
