Husband of Anna Vindevogel, of Belgium and Montréal, Québec. According to customs documents, Charles came to Canada as a tourist in 1910 and as an immigrant in 1912. His wife joined him later and she died before him, between 1916 and 1919. Her death has not been recorded in the Québec archives; it is therefore possible that she was back in Belgium before she died.

At the creation of the 22nd Battalion, Charles was among the first to enlist and went overseas. He was with the 22nd Battalion at the front in September 1915, as a cook; a difficult job with the infantry; he became sick after two months and was evacuated in England. He was repatriated for an extended convalescence and he was later released from military service as medically unfit on 16 September 1916. He died three years later at the Jeffrey Hale hospital in Québec, of pneumonia and chronical nephritis, and his death was deemed caused by his military service.
