Baptized Louis-Philippe-Alexandre Dugas. Son of Marguerite Fugère (deceased in 1901) and Joseph-Honoré Dugas (remarried in 1907 to Marie-Jeanne Fugère), of Maria, Gaspésie, Québec.

He was wounded to the legs at Vimy on 9 April 1917 and evacuated in England for one year.
