The Memorial Building was constructed as a living memorial after the First World War by the Lake of the Woods Milling Company Limited. The building opened in December of 1920. The Lake of the Woods Milling Company Limited operated a mill in Keewatin for 79 years, from 1888 until 1967 when most of it burned to the ground and was never rebuilt.
The Lake of the Woods Milling Company First World War Roll of Honour was erected in the Memorial Building, date unknown, before it was transferred to the Keewatin Legion, date unknown.
The Memorial Building was located at 102 Tenth Street and is now owned by Shaw Communications. The most notable changes to the building on the outside, are the old dormer windows that were cut into the roof are gone. The Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps, HMCS Mispic, stored their uniforms, band instruments, and rifles here. They used the upstairs hall and at one time had about 80 cadets on parade.
Directly across the street from the building is the Keewatin Memorial Cairn.
