Strength of People in London

People don’t realize how strong the people in London were. I could cry sometimes when I think of it, you know. You’d see pictures of the Queen and the King walking among these ruins and they’d have “Open for Business” and there’d be nothing there except a doorway and no window, “Open for Business”. Very strong, very strong, that was encouraging to you, you know. It’s like you can do what you like, but you won’t, like Churchill, of course, was a wonderful encourager, a wonderful source of strength to the people and after he was gone they realized you know. And he said Britain would never, you know, crumble and I remember one time when he was talking about Hitler’s threats and so on and they were going to string our necks or something and he said, “Some chicken, some neck!” you know, but he really was an encouragement to the British people during the war and I think, you know, afterwards they realized it. Showing the V-sign everywhere he went you know, between him and the King and Queen who stayed there it was a good testimony to their love for their country and their people.
