Armoured Corps Training
Heroes Remember
Transcript
Training in the Armoured Corps you would have to learn how to
drive vehicles, how to maintenance vehicles, how to, how
to practically be well one of my qualifications was as a driver-
mechanic, but still be able to handle a gun or a rifle. And
naturally you’d go, what we would do is go... we would have what
we call armoured cars, we would have Bren Gun carrier, we would
have a, we would have an armoured car called a Daimler and...,
you know and they would, we would go on patrol around the
country. And practice coming under fire, you know and
deploying our vehicles and how to fight back, you see,
mostly from an Armoured Corps point of view, and we would go on
long convoys across England doing this. That was another type of
life too, you know. And then when you returned to camp after
the exercise was over, while everybody else was preparing like
your officers are preparing for the next stage of training. What
you’re doing is probably like I was doing, was into infantry
training such as obstacle courses and everything that you do
there is... takes time you know. Obstacle course, live firing
exercises, you know, using live bullets and getting assessed for
your reaction. And by that time you’re always looking a little
bit ahead because what they have also is the... is the trained
soldiers platoon, and once you hit that platoon,
you’re ready to go overseas.
