I re-enlisted and... reported into Petawawa. The first day
they tell us to hold up your hand and what did you do in civvy
life? And I told them I was a boxer! “PTI, report to so and
so!” So I became a, so I went over to, I reported to a physical
training wing and they sent me on a physical training course and
I became a physical training instructor and from then on... I
was, you know, really running the PT courses myself, and then
when we went overseas, my job was once the unit didn’t have
anything to do, was put them on top of the holes of the ships and
make them jump up and down.
Description
Mr. Jones discusses volunteering for Korea, and because of his background as a boxer, being selected and trained as a Physical Training instructor.
Bud Jones
Bud Jones was born in Montreal, Quebec. He was a good boxer and very athletic, becoming a PT instructor before his deployment to Europe in the Second World War. He was assigned to the Royal Canadian Regiment, whose responsibility it was to eliminate German V2 rocket launching sites along the European side of the English Channel. He would see service in France, Belgium and Holland. Following his war service, Mr. Jones enlisted in the regular forces, becoming a career soldier. During that time, he served in Germany and Japan in addition to his service in Canada.
