Spouse of Ms. Michelle Anne Shaw of Petawawa, Ontario. Son of Robert Alan McLaren of Peterborough, Ontario. Originally enlisting in late 2001, Mark Robert joined the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment as a Reserve soldier, in early 2002. A new Canadian Coast Guard patrol vessel will be named after Mark Robert. This particular group of vessels are described as "Hero Class". The vessel is expected to be ready in 2013.

OTTAWA (BEECHWOOD) CEMETERY contains 98 Commonwealth burials of the First World War and 113 from the Second World War. Many of the graves are in the two veterans plots, where there is also a Cross of Sacrifice dedicated to all service casualties buried in the cemetery. The OTTAWA CREMATION MEMORIAL is in a shelter adjoining the newer of the veterans plots in the cemetery and commemorates 26 Second World War servicemen whose remains were cremated elsewhere in Canada and the U.S.A.

  • Plaque– This was the laser engraved granite plaque that we designed to mark the unfortunate passing of Cpl McLaren. It was originally displayed at the Kandahar Cenotaph from the date of his passing - and was repatriated to Canada in 2014. Today, it can be seen at the Afghanistan War Memorial located at National Defence Headquarters in Kanata, On. Rod A. McLeod, Designer
