At Mayfield United Church, there is a stained glass window memorial depicting: (1) a dove, sky, and clouds; (2) ribbons and a hand grasping a lit torch; and (3) poppies and rows of crosses. These windows were erected by the parish of Mayfield United Church in honour and memory of all those who served during times of war.

In 2005, as a 175th Anniversary Project, and to commemorate “The Year of the Veteran,” the window (original 1874) on the south side of the vestibule was replaced with the memorial stained glass window.

Residents from the Township of Nichol met on April 12, 1919, and discussed how to welcome home First World War returning soldiers and honor those who had fallen. The Soldiers Memorial Committee was formed and they contracted McIntosh Marble and Granite Company of Toronto who supplied a Stanstead granite monument engraved with the names of the fallen. At the top of the cenotaph is a maple leaf surrounded by a wreath, set in bronze.

The cenotaph was dedicated on May 25, 1921, with remarks by Reeve T.B. Broadfoot, Lieutenant-Colonel R.T. Pritchard, commander of the 153rd Battalion, Reverend Sullivan of Elora, and Captain Macdonald. The monument was unveiled by Mary Finnie, who had lost two sons overseas: William in 1915 and Walter in 1916.

The cenotaph was first installed at the intersection of Washington and Union Streets on land donated by John R. Wissler, then moved to its current location. Later, inscriptions were added to honour the Second World War and Korean War.

CAPTAIN FREDERICK W. CAMPBELL, V.C.
1867 - 1915.
Born in Oxford county and raised near Mount Forest,
Campbell saw active service in the South African War.
He went overseas in 1914 with the first Canadian
contingent and was posted to the 1st Battalion, C.E.F.
In June, 1915, his unit was engaged in the Givenchy
area of France. During an attack on the German
trenches, Campbell held an exposed posision under heavy
fire, despite the loss of most of his detachment. He

counter-attack. Shot by a sniper, Campbell died of his
wounds. For his gallant conduct he was posthumously
awarded the British Empire's highest decoration for
valour, the Vicotria Cross.

LIEUT. S. LEWIS HONEY, V.C., D.C.M., M.M.
1894-1918

Born at Conn, Honey enlisted in January, 1915 with the 34th
Battalion C.E.F. and served in France with the 78th Battalion.
During a Canadian attack in September, 1918, in the Bourlon
Wood area, he reorganized his unit under severe fire, and
rushed a machine-gun post single-handed, capturing the guns
and ten prisoners. Later he repelled four enemy counter-
attacks and led a party which took another post and three guns.
On September 29 he led his company against a strong enemy
position and was mortally wounded on the last day of the
attack. For his conspicuous bravery, Lieutenant Honey was
posthumously awarded the British Empire's highest decoration
for military valour, the Victoria Cross.

The Mulmur War Memorial, also known as the Mansfield Cenotaph was dedicated on November 11, 1952, to the soldiers of the community who lost their lives in the Frist and Second World Wars and to those who served in the wars. A smaller plaque for Korea was added later.

The Mansfield Cenotaph was built by the Mansfield Women's Institute and restored in 2012 by its present members. It was made more accessible to the public by having it face the park. The original layout of the cairn had the plaques facing out towards Airport Road. The plaques were moved from cenotaph's front and placed on the back. A walkway was added that leads into the garden surrounding the cenotaph and to a bench placed in the garden to sit and reflect. A huge rock was added recognizing the service of Afghanistan Veterans and peacekeepers. The re-dedication ceremony, which included MP David Tilson, Councilor Earl Hawkins and members of the Mansfield Women's Institute, was held on November 9, 2012.
