The hall was built as the community war memorial in 1951 and its official opening was on June 1. It was a community effort: a grant was obtained from the government to help with the costs, the Farm Forum gave assistance and local residents contributed both brain and brawn towards the construction. The hall is set in an attractive park in the hamlet of Mono Centre which now boasts playground equipment for small children as well as a baseball diamond. The original hall was a frame building. In 1973 it was bricked, and in 1983 the name was officially changed to the "Mono Township Community Centre and Memorial Hall". In 1987, an addition was made and the front radically changed, with the redesigned building being officially opened on June 6. Management of the hall was by a committee of local residents until the municipality took over in 1987, and it has become a popular venue for recreation programs run by the Town of Mono and various individuals and also for picnics, meetings, wedding receptions, family reunions, etc. Further renovations and improvements have just been completed and the hall bears little resemblance to the original building. However, plaques are installed in prominent places on both the outside and inside of the building which show the dedication to those among the local community who served and/or gave their lives in the two Great Wars.

This memorial was erected in 2003 honouring those who served and returned from the First and Second World Wars, and Korean War. It features three large stones that were quarried from Manitoulin Island limestone.

Rock is a symbol of strength and trust, and the people who served were the "bedrock" of the community. The one horizontal stone represents injured Veterans and offers a place for people to sit and reflect. The inscription on the middle stone is below a Maple Leaf (representing the country they fought for) inside a laurel wreath (representing honour) with three poppies underneath (to remember those who did not return). The flagstone path in front of the monument leads to the memorial but also points the way to the cenotaph, representing those who did not come back looking for their fallen comrades.

Alexandra Park located at Second Street and First Avenue, was planned in 1901, and was officially opened in August 1903. It was named after Queen Alexandra. The park was built on the site of the former town stockyards that held cattle brought to the weekly market at the Town Hall. In 1923, the Dufferin County War memorial was constructed in the park, and unveiled at November 11 Remembrance Day services that year. The park is the home for the Town's cenotaph, a bandshell (built in 1922), a farmers' market and a Ceteran's memorial (built in 2003) honouring those who served and returned from the First and Second World Wars, and Korea War.

The figure by Nicolas Pirotton of a soldier with the rifle resting on the left shoulder and a grenade in his right, appears in bronze in Orangeville (1924). It is said to have been modelled as a portrait of Major Thain Wendell MacDowell, a local man who had been awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions at Vimy Ridge. The figure was cast by the Allis Chalmers Company of Toronto.

At the April 16, 1928, Town Council meeting, a delegation consisting of Robert Galbraith, Doctor G. P. Allen, and F. J. Noonan disclosed that an anonymous donor had pledged $1,000 toward a memorial. The Town Council agreed to match the $1,000 pledge. The cenotaph, carved from blocks of grey granite, was designed and built by A.J. Corbett, and engraved by Adam Walker.

Captain Frederick W. Campbell was the first Canadian to be awarded the Victoria Cross during the First World War and was killed in action in Givenchy in 1915. On October 15, 1928, the cenotaph was unveiled by his widow, Margaret Campbell. Two Veterans who were with Captain Campbell at Givenchy, Lieutenant J. C. McDonald and Sargent Vincent, were given pride of place.

The cenotaph was re-dedicated in 1946 to honour those who died in the Second World War.

This was the original site of the Dominion Hotel in 1870 owned by Sam Stuckey. Later known as the Forgrave Hotel when it was owned and operated by Spenser Forgrave. The hotel closed in 1915 and the hotel buildings were removed from the property in 1920 to make way for a memorial.

Grand Valley citizens held a meeting on 15 October 1929 to decide on a monument fitting to the boys who fell in the Great War. A Memorial Committee was comprised of A. Wansbrough, William Park, Willis Potter, George H. Hunt, and E.H. Glenn. The cenotaph was dedicated on 11 November 1921 to the 31 men from the Townships of East Luther, East Garafraxa, Ameranth, and Village of Grand Valley.

During a meeting of the War Memorial Committee on 11 November 1943, a decision was made to add the names of the men who served in the Second World War to the cenotaph. The Committee also agreed upon a standard to decide what names of present war casualties should be inscribed in the future:
1. Residence in the community at time of enlistment.
2. Residence of 5 years in the community at any time.
3. Residence of 2 years in the community since Sept. 1st, 1934.
4. Next of kin still residing in the community.

On 21 July 1949 a memorial stone was added to each side of the cenotaph to recognize the Second World War and Korean War. One stone bears the names of those from this district who paid the supreme sacrifice in the Second World War. Both stones were unveiled 14 August 1949 as part of the Grand Valley Cenotaph.
