This memorial features a statue of a soldier in action, and the names of those who gave their lives in the First World War. Originally built shortly after the First World War, the plaques for the Second World War and Korea were later added. It is dedicated to the men of Meaford and St. Vincent Township.

The figure by Nicolas Pirotton of a soldier holding a rifle in his left hand and a grenade in his right, appears in bronze in Meaford (1924). It is said to have been modelled as a portrait of Major Thain Wendell MacDowell, a local man who had been awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions at Vimy Ridge. The figure was cast by the Allis Chalmers Company of Toronto.

This memorial was constructed in 1922, and dedicated to those who died in the First World War. In December 1921, the Library Board met the International Order of the Daughters of the Empire for the purpose of erecting a war memorial on the library grounds. Town council had given the International Order of the Daughters of the Empire  $500 toward the construction of a monument. In February 1922, a committee from the Library Board consisting of Miss A. Zinn, Rev. D.J. Lane, James A. Magee and Mayor Henry Peppler met with the International Order of the Daughters of the Empire  to work out the details of erecting the monument. In March, the Library Board granted permission for the International Order of the Daughters of the Empire  to place the monument in the northwest corner of the library lot. Another war memorial was suggested by the Hanover Women's Institute in March 1922. The Women's Institute met with the Library Board to place a service flag with the names of the Hanover enlists of the First World War. The flag was placed on the south wall of the men's reading room.

Emanuel Hahn moved to Toronto at the age of seven with his family of artists and musicians from Germany, in 1888. He studied commercial design and model-making at Toronto Technical School and Ontario College of Art and Industrial Design. At 25 years old Hahn began a nearly lifelong contract with Thomson Monument Company of Toronto. Two years later, he also started work as a studio assistant to sculptor Walter Seymour Allward. Part of his duties included assisting on Allward’s significant works such as the South African War Memorial in Toronto.

In 1912 Hahn began an association with the Thomson Monument Company of Toronto. It was there, along with several assistants, he made the many war memorials that are found across Canada: Fernie, British Columbia; Killarney and Russell, Manitoba; Alvinston, Bolton, Cornwall, Hanover, Lindsay,  Malvern, Milton, Petrolia and Port Dalhousie, Ontario; Gaspe, Quebec; Moncton, New Brunswick; Springhill and Westville Nova Scotia; Summerside, Prince Edward Island.

Hahn is probably most famous as the designer of the Bluenose on the back of the Canadian dime and the Caribou on the back of the Canadian quarter. He was a victim of anti-German sentiment in the years following the Great War, when his design for the Winnipeg Cenotaph was rejected in 1925.

Following the end of the Great War, Cape Croker erected a cenotaph in honour of local citizens who died in the conflict. The cenotaph features a young soldier from the First World War, standing tall on top of a granite base, grasping his rifle vertically in front of him.

Two additional stele where added in 1999 listing the wars and conflicts of which soldiers from this community have served and honouring all from Cape Croker who were killed in war service.

Ontario war memorials based on the same template as Cape Croker's were constructed in Kemptville, Sunderland and Wiarton.

This memorial consists of honour roll plaques, erected in grateful remembrance by the teachers and students of the North Toronto Collegiate Institute. This Riverdale Collegiate Institute’s five memorials lists only those students who died in the First and Second World War, displayed in the atrium addition (built in the 1990s) and incorporates the original school’s façade. The last two plaques (D & E) depict individual black and white photographs arranged in seven columns, followed by a name.

Harvey Watt Cockshutt was killed in the Battle of Mont Sorel on June 2, 1916. The Rev. W.G. Martin, pastor of the Congregational Church officiated at the ceremony to inaugurate a YMCA girls camp in his honour. The beautiful camp was given by Mrs. Cockshutt as a perpetual memorial to her only son.

When the war broke out Harvey Cockshutt’s words were: "I don’t want to go, but I feel it is my duty to go," and he went. On the morning in June 2, he was wounded and his comrades built a parapet of sandbags about him, but the Germans came on and they were obliged to leave him.

In addition to the monument at its head office in Toronto, the Canadian Bank of Commerce honoured employees from each branch who served in the First World War. This plaque was commissioned shortly after the war and dedicated to the bank's 1701 employees who served in the war, 321 laid down their lives. The names of five employees of the Brantford Canadian Bank of Commerce who served in the war are listed on the plaque.

The plaque features the caduceus logo of the bank - two snakes winding around a winged staff at the upper left, and two poppies intertwined with a symbolic olive branch at the lower right. The Canadian Bank of Commerce went to great lengths to commemorate its staff that served in the war including a two-volume book of staff profiles and accounts of their war experiences.
