I’m Squeaker, here to tell you that some history isn’t just found in books—it’s carried by people. More than 26,000 Canadians served in the Korean War, which was fought in East Asia from 1950 to 1953.

One of the conflict’s most important actions was the Battle of Kapyong in April 1951. About 700 members of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry were sent to defend the Kapyong Valley. They faced an enemy force that was much larger. The fighting was intense. Our troops were surrounded and began to run low on food and ammunition. Planes had to drop supplies from the air so they could keep going. Ten Canadians were killed and 23 were wounded—but the soldiers held their position and stopped the attack.
A Korean War Veteran once told me about his experiences at Kapyong. It helped me imagine how difficult the fighting must have been. Every Veteran has a story to share.
