Baaaa! I’m Pax. My sheep friends and I help keep the grass trimmed at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France. I have learned so much about what different parts of the monument represent.
Friendship
The two large towers stand for Canada and France, brought together by shared loss during the war and remembrance of the people who served.
Sadness
The statue of Mother Canada tells the story of grieving families and communities at home. They missed their loved ones who never returned.
Courage and belief
There are 20 statues on the memorial. They represent special ideas like sacrifice, loss and the values Canadians fought to defend.
People
The Canadian National Vimy Memorial shares 11,285 stories, one for each name carved into its base. The names belong to Canadian soldiers who died in France during the First World War and have no known graves.
If you designed a monument to honour Canadians in uniform, what would it look like?
Every memorial tells a story
Every memorial tells a story if we take time to look, listen and learn.
