Make a peace tree

Hello everyone, I am Squeaker the pigeon. As a bird, I can travel great distances. I have seen many parts of the world—but flying in countries affected by war can be bumpy. That is why I try to be peaceful wherever I go!

Canadian Veterans have done a lot of work to build and protect peace. They left their safe homes to go far away where conflict was hurting people. Places like Central America and Haiti, for example. When they were on peace missions like these, they often wore blue hats and helmets. This identified them as peacekeepers.

I may only be a small pigeon, but I have big dreams! I know if I try hard, I can achieve a lot.

Today, I am making a peace tree with my friends. We are cutting out and colouring peace doves and poppies. We are also folding peace cranes. We will write the names of Veterans we are remembering on maple leaf cards. Or, we could write our own names as a promise to always remember. We will put these symbols of peace and remembrance on our tree. Will your class be makers of peace, too?
